Katy Hessel & Michael Bird: The Story of Art
7.30pm Wednesday 19th October
The Poly
Tickets: £8 and £5

Join two of our finest art historians as they discuss their latest books and pose the question: who gets to tell the story of our art?

In her first book, The Story of Art without Men, Katy Hessel builds on the body of work she has created with her Instagram account @thegreatwomenartists (over 280,000 followers) and the podcast of the same name. Have your sense of art history overturned and open your eyes to many art forms often overlooked or
dismissed. From the Cornish coast to Manhattan, Nigeria to Japan, this is the history of art as it’s never been told before.

Renowned Cornish-based art historian Michael Bird is the author of many books - his latest, This is Tomorrow: Twentieth-century Britain and its Artists, reassesses our national output during the ‘long twentieth century’. From the closing years of Queen Victoria’s reign to the turn of the millennium, he examines Britain through the lens of the artists who have recorded, questioned and defined our times.
