Tom Palmer
10.30am Saturday 24 October, at The Poly
Step back into wartime Cornwall with award-winning children’s author Tom Palmer and discover the true stories behind his new book If the Invader Comes, set in Falmouth and Mylor Bridge in 1940 and 1941.
Tom will challenge young readers with a WW2 Cornwall quiz, uncover some of the extraordinary real events that inspired the story, and show how he turns historical research into an adventure.
Come ready to test your knowledge, ask questions and discover how a book travels from first idea through research, planning, writing and editing to the finished story.
Best suited to children aged 8+

Clare Helen Welsh
Midday Saturday 24 October, at The Poly
Join Clare Helen Welsh for a lively, interactive celebration of community inspired by her brand-new picture book Together Street, which is published this month!
Children will step into the story with Ash and his new neighbour Nell as they explore what it means to feel at home, what makes a community special, and how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Along the way, there’ll be plenty of chances to join in, share ideas and get creative. Everyone will help make a collaborative mural, as well as creating something of their own to take home.
Best suited to children aged 3–8, but everyone is welcome to join in.

Rebecca Cobb
10.30am Sunday 25 October, at the Poly
Join bestselling local picture-book author and illustrator Rebecca Cobb for a lively morning of storytelling and drawing, inspired by the new picture book The Ice Cream Crocodile, written by Mariesa Dulak and illustrated by Rebecca.
Elvis the crocodile loves the excitement of circus life, but ringmaster Sidney thinks only fluffy and feathery animals belong in the spotlight. Can Elvis prove that crocodiles have star quality too?
Rebecca will read from the book, talk about how she creates her characters and illustrations, and invite children to join in with some drawing of their own.
Best suited to children aged 5–8, but younger and older children are very welcome too.
